About
I have moved a lot. In the past ten years alone I have lived in Seattle, Manila, Sarajevo, Pretoria, and Washington DC, and now Lima, Peru. Before that? Montana, Colorado, Oregon, California, Massachusetts, Mexico, New York, Alaska.
There have been many travels in between and to and fro. Taking pictures in new environs helps me get my bearings. I guess I am creating a pictorial map that helps me find my way.
I started taking pictures back in the late 1980’s when my mom gave me the family’s 35mm Pentax mg. I had no idea what I was doing. But I got lucky sometimes and managed to capture something, a spark.
I try my best to encounter the world without expectations or preconceived notions. Impossible, I know. But it is something I strive for. That way, each person, landscape and cityscape can speak for themselves and I can see them, picture them, as best I can without too many presumptions. In fact, this strategy developed out of necessity. People and places kept surprising me so it seems best just to let them tell their story. Of course always aware that when I take pictures it is through my lens.
I hope that you can find something in my pictures that helps you see something you haven’t noticed before.
